Why we killed the graphic tee
A logo is a shortcut. A color is a decision. We would rather make the decision.
We didn’t remove graphics because we ran out of things to say. We removed them because color had more to say.
For years, the graphic tee did the talking. Logos, illustrations, slogans and references told people what a garment meant. With Udupp Color Lab, we wanted to strip that language back and ask a different question: what happens when color becomes the message?
Every shade carries perception. Some feel calm. Some feel energetic. Some disappear into a room; others change it. Color can affect how an outfit feels, how it is remembered, and how we choose to present ourselves. Yet most of us are taught to choose colors simply because we “like” them.
Color Literacy is Udupp’s attempt to change that.
Through Udupp Color Lab, we study color as more than decoration: its mood, context, combinations, occasions and cultural associations. Instead of covering the garment with graphics, we give the color enough space to speak for itself.
The silhouette stays restrained. The branding stays quiet. The fabric stays premium. The variable is color.
Same garment. Different shade. Different conversation.
We didn’t kill creativity. We changed its language.
“Graphics tell you what to see. Color asks you what you feel. Udupp Color Lab begins where the graphic tee ends.”
