Limited batches, by hand
A bigger bath would be cheaper and more uniform. We are not interested in either.
There is a version of this business where we dye ten thousand crews in one enormous, temperature-controlled run and ship a perfectly uniform color. It would be cheaper. It would also be lifeless.
Instead we cap the batch, mix by hand, and log each run against the season so we can trace any piece back to its bath. The trade-off is that colors vary slightly from run to run: a Rosewood from spring is not a bit-for-bit match of one from summer.
We have made peace with that variance because it is the honest signature of a garment dye. When you own a udupp crew, you own a specific bath on a specific day, not an infinitely reproducible SKU.
